Whey concentrate is the most commonly used whey product and is obtained by concentrating the protein from whey. It contains considerably more fat and carbohydrates than whey isolate and thus has a lower protein content. If sufficient whey concentrate is consumed to compensate for the lower protein content, muscle development will not be compromised. In terms of calorie-restricted diets or lactose intolerance, whey isolate is strongly recommended. In the field of sports nutrition, unflavoured whey protein concentrate typically has a protein content of 70-80% and has a great quality at a great price.
Whey isolate is the highest quality protein powder available and is the perfect solution for those who don’t want compromise on protein quality. Its pure powder form attains a protein quality of 90% with minimal amounts (<1%) of fat and carbohydrates and thus lactose-free. According to data from WHO, about 25% of the European population currently suffers from lactose intolerance.
Whey hydrolysate are so-called «pre-digested proteins» as their protein chains have already been broken down enzymatically. They are either based on whey protein concentrate or isolate.
