Dominik Windisch made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup in 2011 and won his first race in 2016. At the 2019 Biathlon World Championships in Östersund, the South Tyrolean became world champion in the mass start. He also won a total of three Olympic bronze medals in 2014 and 2018, two of them with the mixed relay team.
